Heather turns detective and tries to find out more about Vinnie's life. Roxy gives Jase some grief for treating her badly the other night. Shirley goes to see Carly and knows she's in a bad way. Mother and daughter manage to bond and Shirley offers to accompany Carly when she goes to see Deano.

On 31 January 2008, June made history by being the first and so far only actress to carry an entire episode single handed in the history of British soap, with a monologue looking back over her past life, dictated to a cassette machine for her husband Jim to listen to in hospital following a stroke. The fact that co-star and close friend John Bardon (who plays Jim) is recovering from a stroke in real life added extra pathos to the episode. In an interview on This Morning she claimed it was relatively easy as there were no co-actors forgetting their lines. In 2009, Brown was nominated for the British Academy Television Award for Best Actress. She is the first actress to be nominated in the category for a role in a soap opera since Jean Alexander's nomination for playing Hilda Ogden in Coronation Street in 1989. Brown's nomination came as a result of her "single-hander" episode of EastEnders, the director of which she praised.

As Ronnie opens her heart, Jack decides to take control of the situation. Meanwhile, Tamwar makes a shocking decision, and Ian isn't at all happy with being the butt of the joke.

Billy and Jay's fragile peace is endangered when Jamie embarks upon a dangerous path. Jack and Tanya are ready to head to France, but can they hide the truth from Max?

It's a race against time as Jack and Tanya prepare to leave Albert Square before Max discovers their plan. Libby makes a big decision about her future and Stacey sets Callum a sexy challenge.

The police release Jack and Max begins to wonder if he has got himself in too deep. Darren takes his driving test and also has bad news for Libby. Ricky takes the kids trick-or-treating, with disastrous consequences.

Things take a sinister turn as Jack tries to take revenge on Max and a shock incident means that the Brannings' lives could be changed forever. Ronnie has a run in with Bianca at the Vic Halloween party. Libby and Darren make secret plans and Lauren makes a shocking discovery.

As Max fights for his life, his family makes a shocking discovery about the accident. Pat is thrown when Bianca opens her heart about her relationship with Tony and a furious Denise confronts Lucas about Libby's decision to leave home, with a surprising outcome.

Suspicion falls on Jack as the police investigation into Max's accident gets underway, but is Tanya hiding something? Meanwhile, a frustrated Sean finds himself out in the cold as Roxy focuses on protecting Ronnie.

Dot becomes increasingly concerned by Bradley's strange behaviour, while a guilty Stacey shuts out Callum. Meanwhile, as Jane performs her stand-up routine in the Vic, Ian finds himself in an unfortunate predicament.

Callum pulls out all the stops in order to impress Stacey, but will she seize her chance for happiness? Meanwhile, Bradley faces an agonising dilemma about Max, and Whitney's plans for Tony's birthday don't go according to plan.

Lauren has a shocking revelation about Max, which leaves Tanya reeling. Meanwhile, Sean has to take action when Archie's manipulations go too far, and Ben confides in Shirley about his fears for the future.

The Brannings are stunned when the perpetrator of Max's attempted murder is revealed. Elsewhere, Sean struggles in his endeavours to prove Archie wrong about him, Masood has a eureka moment about the future of Masala Masood, and Jane is thrown by an unwelcome visitor.

Things start to look worse for the Brannings when a surprise witness in Max's case is uncovered. Meanwhile, Sean is left fuming when he realises that Roxy hasn't been completely honest with him, and Masood takes desperate measures to try and solve his business problems.

Events take a darkly unexpected twist when Jack visits Jim in his nursing home. Meanwhile, Shirley's heart breaks as she pushes Phil towards a life-changing decision, and Roxy finds the strength she needs to be a mother.
